July 17th, 2013

Wow!!  It's been a long time since I've posted anything.  I guess it's time to fill in all the blanks.  I'm saddened by my foot injury from the first weekend of May.  I still have huge issues with it.  It is swollen every night and in the morning, holy cow...  I stumble out of bed and limp around for about an hour.  I can't begin to work out, but I did start this week because I have to!  I have to do something and I have this theory that getting more active will help that thing heal faster.

I had every intention to have my weight way down before my brother's wedding.  Of course, I didn't.  In fact, at some point I just didn't give a crap.  I was really stressed out about the whole thing.  Curt and I both had big responsibilities.  For me...  those dresses kicked my butt.  I made the mock dresses and tried them on 3 of the 4 bridesmaids.  I couldn't get the other bridesmaid over to try hers on.  So after doing the mock dresses, then I started on the real ones and realized that the fabric she chose SUCKED!!  Thank goodness my sister in law is the easiest going person I know.  I went to her, 3 days BEFORE the wedding and showed her the "real" dresses and asked if I could change the fabric up again and she said, whatever you want.  So I quickly ran down and bought a shimmery cotton and, what a sigh of relief, made the 4 dresses with ease!  I actually got alot of compliments from people so for as much trouble as those things were, it was worth it, I guess.

First weekend of June...  Curt woke up on that Saturday morning in horrible pain.  We spent some time in the ER.  His hernia, that has caused problems for several months, popped out and wouldn't go back in.  Long story, short...  he was out of work from June 3 to July 14 and had surgery on June 18 to fix it.  After a few weeks, he's feeling much better.  Hopefully he can start working out again too!  I've been looking forward to racquetball again!

My son is causing stress in my life.  He snuck out again.  He got arrested.  He made me mad.  I don't want to talk about it.  Just know it's there.  By the way, he's been on his best behavior.

We started back up on the diet on July 3.  We've been eating pretty carefully and all that.  I'm up and up and up and up and at my highest weight ever.  I don't get it.  I'm being very careful.  Quite frankly, I'm very discouraged.  I'm going to start posting more regularly to keep myself honest.  Maybe I'm missing something.  I will say that in my defense...  I have a horrible sun burn and at night, my legs are horribly swollen.  AND it should be TTOM in the next day or 2, but the latter has never really affected my weight all that much. I think that I'll try for an attack phase starting tomorrow (Curt already has his lunch packed and gone).  And I should mention here that Curt is also up a little so that is why I think I'm missing something.  We'll just get on top of this all and hopefully it will be better.  I'm tired of feeling like crap about myself.

I think that I've decided to quit blogging on this blog.  I may start a new one and when I do, I will send messages to those I know who read this one so you can follow that one. But as of now, I'm done on this one. I will continue reading your blogs and commenting.

New post... from Curt cuz Jamie is out of commission

Well, she's not exactly out of commission, but she's a hurtin' unit!  Today was her (I'm a computer guy, so forgive me...) 'upgrade'.

We got up a little before 6 and made the 30 minute drive to Boise.  We waited forever... then we went back for pre-op.  Jamie did great (she HATES needles poked into her), and then they took her away.  I was left to... well, do nothing, for the next 3 hours before I got to see her again.  Surgery took 1.5 hrs, but the other 1.5 hrs was her in recovery.  When I saw her she was ready to go out the door!  LOL.  I guess she had had enough of that place.

We got something for lunch, mostly for me cuz we hadn't eaten since dinner the night before, and she didn't feel like food yet.  Although it wasn't 'diet' food, I had a FANTASTIC sandwich from a Vietnamese deli.  It had roast beef and WASABI!  I have a soft spot for wasabi...  it was FANTASTIC!

We went home after that.  I took her upstairs where we both spent the afternoon laying in bed watching RAISING HOPE (funniest show on TV right now, highly recommended).  Surprisingly she never napped.  She even went downstairs with me later and sat while I folded laundry.  After her pain pill at 6, she decided she was ok to go run a couple of errands.  Alrighty.... We went to Ryan and Mel's (my cousin, I work with both of them) and picked up a key...  then we went to Albertson's to get a copy of BREAKING DAWN.  Jamie started feeling nauseous in the produce section, she frantically demanded a produce bag, into which she emptied the contents of her stomach...  ew...  ;)  Mostly water and acid, and bananas.  This part was so funny:  we took it back to the deli area where she explained that she had vomited into a bag and needed a trash can.  The 17 year old zitty kid working back there took one look at that see-through bag and took 2 steps back... hilarious...  But, he stretched out a trash can as far as his arms would reach for her, so I explained that she wasn't contagious, she had just had surgery....  so funny...

But now she's feeling better (after puking 1 more time).  We're now sitting in bed watching our movie as our Valentine's/anniversary evening together.

I don't think we are going to be doing much weighing in over the next couple of weeks.  Jamie tried the scale tonight after the vomiting episodes... and found herself over 10 lbs UP!!!  So, she's not happy, but it's understandable since her body is all swollen and retaining water.  I'm only up by like 1 lb, so it's no big deal.  I seem to do that anyway...

So, I'm dropping in to let you all know that she's doing great...  We're laughing and holding each other, just like couples should do on their anniversary.

Just so you all know, I didn't let this holiday/occasion pass without finding something wonderful for my beautiful wife.  We were getting her ring back the other day from being sized (again...) and we decided to look around for a heart necklace for her.  Well....  I found the PERFECT one!  For anybody who has, or ever gets to meet this love of my life, she has the most SHOCKINGLY blue eyes...  This necklace is silver with a blue diamond heart inside of the silver heart.  My eyes landed on it, and I didn't need to see anything more.  We walked out with it all gift wrapped so that I could give it to her in front of the kids.  While she's not a fantastic actress, it was still fun, and the girls all thought it was as beautiful as we did.

Here is a picture of it from their website.  With her eyes, it's perfect... just like I think she is!

So, once she's ready, we'll get some "after" pictures to share with you all.

Thank you for those who sent prayers of safety for her, they were answered!

Curt (and Jamie sitting right next to me helping me spell!)

Happy anniversary, baby.  And happy heart day to everybody else!!!  Hope you all enjoyed it!

Well....  it's just another day.  The dryer quit working so we had to go get a new one.  Berlyn got a free pass to Wahooz...  this awful money trap that lures kids and drives parents CRAZY! So we went and played games, laser tagged.  Berlyn told me it was one of her favorite days ever so I guess the torture of it was worth it.

Crap, I'm tired.  I can't even try to think of anything to say.  But...  we both hit new lows today and right before my bed time shower, I weighed in and I'm up just a little from this morning so fingers crossed, tomorrow will be a good number.  What I did realize this morning...  I'm 8 lbs from a weight that I held steady at for close to 9 years, aside from the 9 months I was pregnant with Berlyn.  That will be huge to hit that number and even bigger to go under it.  Can't wait!

All new low number and new goal reached for me! So excited!  But my weigh in was late in the morning.  We got up and got the kids off to school and then laid down again and woke up at 11, and only because the phone rang.  We needed it.  It felt fantastic to sleep in like that.

For me, yesterday, I didn't feel well.  I spent alot of time in the bathroom and alot of food wasn't making it down into my stomach.  Then late at night, because I was finally starving, I slipped up and cheated.  Not horribly bad, but it was a cheat no less.  Yet despite that, I had a good number this morning.  We both got a couple of work outs in yesterday.  I had my strength training class which I have found that I LOVE.  Yesterday, we learned how to use our own body weight against us to "lift weights" and how those workouts are more effective that workouts with weight machines.  It was very interesting.  Alot of the women I workout with travel or have a  hard time getting to the gym so this was perfect with them.  AND...  I found out I can still do push ups!  But I definitely need to work on that.

I've been watching Curt limp around today.  His foot is hurting him again.  I'm hoping he can keep working out.  Maybe another doctor's appointment is needed. We didn't work out today because we were #1 busy and #2 both of us were hurting.  Tomorrow tho...

It was nice to see a good woosh on our first day back on Dukan.  Both of us were encouraged.  I suppose some was water weight.  And I actually started having bowel movements again.  I'm over here rolling my eyes at that.  It frustrates me to no end.  I'm hoping to hit my next goal (1.5 stones) by surgery day.  I'm 1.4 lbs from that and I think it shouldn't be a problem to hit that in 10 days.

We were going to go exercise today but we both have hamstrings that are SCREAMING at us so we're taking the day off.  My mom and I went to Briyanna's cheer competition in Boise.  It was fun.

So...  before you all judge and say, we knew you'd come crawling back to us...  hear me out!  We are back on Dukan.  We collectively put 11 lbs. back on in a week and a half.  So there are a couple of reasons that I can pick from.  First of all, we switched to a low calorie diet, but I can be honest.  I have NEVER had good luck on a low calorie diet.  And because we knew we were adding in the carbs, we upped our exercise alot.  We were going every day, for close to an hour.  We still continued with a large water intake.  But...  It was my birthday weekend.  I turned 36 on Monday.  This is where I'll throw in "Happy Birthday to Ethan!"  He's my oldest and turned 15 yesterday.  I had several free birthday lunches that we took advantage of.  I would guess that is where our big problems really were.  Anyhow, we had this magic # that I told Curt if he hit it, we were going immediately back onto Dukan and he hit it this morning.  And that wasn't it.  Yesterday, after lunch I weighed in and I was .4 lbs down from my morning weight.  I went to the gym and worked out and then came home and had a fairly low calorie dinner and this morning...  I was up 3 lbs from yesterday's afternoon weight.  I was in a pretty crappy mood all morning from it.  This morning, we got up and ate breakfast and then went to the gym for a hour.  I weighed in after we got home and I was down 1.8 lbs. from this morning's weight so, I felt a little better.  And yippie...  TTOM has decided to come today.  Note my sarcasm... So we're starting over today.  We are doing 3-4 days of an attack phase and then back to cruising. Tomorrow's post will be labeled day 2, but I will continue off our original weight loss numbers.

It's been a while since I've posted so this is going to be a longer one... forgive me.

Last night, I had an appointment w/ a personal trainer to do a fitness analysis and set a exercise program for me.  OMG...  the fitness analysis made me feel like a failure.  I've been working out for over a month on a regular basis.  On my cardio, I'm fair.  Not even moderate or good.  3 years ago, I was very good.  I have something to aim for!  Bicep strength, I'm good, so no problems there.  Flexibility...  wow...  awful.  But, that's no surprise.  My overall fitness is average.  She suggested the elliptical machine to help my knee issues.  So I tried it.  My butt that has low impact on my knees.  I was dying after the 11 minutes I did.  Anyhow, I see some goals to work towards.  For just turning 36, I have a 40 year old body.  I promise that in 6 months, that will be better.  I guarantee you that 6 months ago, I probably had a 45-50 year old body.  I should have checked then but was afraid of what I was going to hear.

On a different note...  I want to start this paragraph by saying that this does not need to get back to my parents and any other family members (ahem, cough, cough...  yes, that is directed at you, Sandy).   I know I've mentioned it before, but not with all seriousness.  But, on February 14, our anniversary, I'm getting myself a boob job.  It has been something I've talked about for years and decided to go ahead and go for it.  I talked to the doctor and asked about continuing to lose weight and he said it wouldn't be a problem.  It was honestly the most awkward thing I've ever experienced.  And since I'm being honest, I'm a little worried about it.  I have a very broad rib cage and I had to go bigger than I'm totally comfortable with to compensate for that.  But according to the doctor, I will be smaller than what the forms make it appear to be because they going under the chest muscles which will strap 'em in!  I hope he's right because otherwise, some people might have heart attacks.  The whole process is quite funny.  You put on this bra that looks like a nursing bra and they put "forms" in it to pick and chose the size.  I now know my left side is bigger than my right.  So by putting on these forms, I was SHOCKED to see what it did for my figure.  I'm tall, broad shoulders, wide chested, and NO boobs!  And with the boobs, I looked ALOT skinnier.  In other words....  I'll be more in proportioned to the rest of my body.  So as far as my parents go...  they will be very irritated with me.  But, I personally don't see it to be any worse that any other procedure we use to make us look better, like braces for purely cosmetic reasons or getting moles removed because they embarrass us.  I could go on.  And besides, I'm 36 and done having babies. Why not?

And lastly, this is what I got for my birthday!
Love it!  Only, I have to go get it resized... AGAIN.  It's my engagement ring, a year or so late.  But I don't care...  I LOVE IT and it goes perfectly with my wedding ring.

Exercise:
C: 30 minutes- bike
J: 60 minutes- bike

Curt and I made a decision together that we need to add a bit of carbs and fruit back into our diets.  We are both struggling mentally and think it may be due our lack of carbs.  This doesn't mean that we are thoroughly off Dukan.  We are using what we have learned from Dukan and using it as a base.  When I say adding carbs, we mean maybe a few whole grain crackers into a snack, a sandwich here and there.  We have been upping our exercise alot and hope that this will help offset what we add in.

On a different note, I am at a all new low.  And I took my measurements again.  Since August, I have shed 19.75 inches from my body.  I have taken 2 inches off each thigh, almost 5 inches from my boobs (GRRRR), almost 4 from waist and hips.  I'm pretty happy with those numbers!  I'm going to start working harder on my belly and thighs.  Those are my big problem areas....

Day 59

I'm not sure what our weights were this morning, but I know we were both up.  I was up .8 lbs and I think that Curt was up .2 lbs, but I'm not sure exactly what.  I'll get the weights for sure tomorrow.  We both have behaved well as far as eating goes.  We both worked out yesterday and I worked out today.  I have strength training tomorrow at 9 a.m.  I'm super excited about that.  I took a shower tonight after I worked out and weighed in before I jumped in.  I weighed exactly the same as I did this morning so I'm REALLY hoping for a good number in the morning.  It's late...  gotta get up at 6 to get kids off to school so off to bed.  I'll be a better blogger tomorrow.

Well...  I guess no water aerobics this morning.  I looked up their website and their 9 am workout in the water is called "Let's Go Deep" and this girl is deathly afraid of deep water.  We're going to go watch it and see if they use some sort of flotation devices and just watch for a couple minutes to see how it works.
LATER: ARGH! We went to the rec center...  they WERE doing the water aerobics! Darn it!

And We're up, again.  No surprise.  It's the way our bodies seems to work, but I felt so close to breaking thru a barrier that I haven't gotten passed in MONTHS.  Maybe next week...

Lunch, to me, was fantastic!  I took spicy pork rinds that are carb free, but high in fat, crushed them and put a thin layer over the egg dipped pork steaks and grilled them.  YUMMY!

Today was supposed to be a PP day, but we decided to make it a PV day since it is Curt's last day off for the next 6 days.  I was looking at numbers and Curt has lost 6 lbs in 1 week!  Amazing!  We've both been working really hard this week and behaving amazingly.  We've been sitting here playing cards and watching movies this evening and we almost talked ourselves into a couple glasses of wine because our backs were starting to ache.  But we talked ourselves out of it.  I think we're going to try to get up tomorrow and do the water aerobics at the rec center.  We'll see.  But I'm going to sign up for a strength training class 2 days a week, Tues and Thurs mornings from 9-10.  Then Curt can come down with me and do his own work out during that time.  I'm actually pretty excited about it.  It starts next Tuesday.

Okay...  off to more scary movies!

This is what we woke up to this morning:
LOVE IT!

We tried something new this morning.  I am SO SICK AND TIRED of plain old eggs and ham that I do ANYTHING in my power not to eat them anymore.  In fact, when I do have to eat plain eggs, I gag them down.  So, once again...  I was reading in the magazines from my mother-in-law and found scrambled egg muffins and they were terrific!

Here's the recipe.  It supposedly makes 12 muffins, but I got 18.

1/2 lbs. ground sausage, browned and drained
12 eggs
1/2 onion, chopped finely
1/4 c. red bell pepper, chopped finely
4 green onions, chopped finely
1/4 t. garlic power
1 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a bowl, spoon into muffin tins (2/3 full), bake for 20-25 minutes @ 350 degrees.

I like mine w/ a dash of hot sauce.

Curt and I have both been having a great week, but Curt specifically is doing amazing!

Tuesday, January 17, 2012- Day 53

Lunch:
C and J: chicken wings

Dinner:
C and J: 9 oz steak, baked potato and salad w/ mustard vinaigrette dressing

Water:
C: 3 quarts water
J: 4 quarts water, 1 can diet orange fanta

Curt hit his next goal: 3 stones!!  He's had a FANTASTIC past couple of days!!!  The kids all went to their other parents' houses so we decided to go out for dinner.  We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner where we discovered a FANTASTIC deal.  They have a 2 for $15.99 deal on Tuesdays, so we got both of our meals for under $17!!  We normally easily spend $50 every time we go there.  Anyways...  yes...  we both had baked potatoes, but we both asked for the toppings on the side and used the sour cream and butter sparingly.  And I'm going to find the recipe for that dressing on line...  it was FANTASTIC!  Gotta love FANTASTIC days!

I was reading thru a pile of magazines that my mother-in-law gave me and found an interview w/ Brooke Burke (host of Dancing with the Stars) and this is what she said about dieting: "If I really crave something, I'll eat it and then get right back into the groove afterward.  I don't feel like I've failed or fallen off the wagon.  Eating healthy should not be torture."  I think that I might just print that off and tape it to my mirror in my bathroom.  So with that in mind, that small baked potato (that I didn't eat all of) doesn't make me feel like a loser!

Something I realized...  we're not being extremely faithful to the Dukan Diet because I forget about alternating PP and PV days.  I get to thinking as long as I just stick with my protein and veggies that I'm all good.  I need to re-do my menu to reflect the alternating days.  And of course, I constantly, conveniently forget about the bran.  Stupid, nasty bran...  So that all said, I'm going to work really hard to be super strict.  I say "I" because realistically, I pretty much dictate what we eat.  So WE will be much stricter.. because I said so!  And this is when I add, "I love you, baby!!" for Curt when he drops in to catch up on what I'm saying about him!

Today we went to my cousin's son's 2nd birthday where pizza and cake were served.  I didn't touch the pizza.  AND...  this just made my day...  3 people told me I've lost weight and look great!  YAY ME!

So...  I have been CRAVING a BLT for weeks.  I've been probably annoying my husband talking about it!  While I reading my blogs, I read a recipe for Oat Bran Bread on Vicki's blog which she borrowed from Slim C's blog.  I had to try it, and today was that magical day for me!!!  I had to make a couple changes tho.  We must a super powerful microwave.  I put the mixture in the microwave for 2 minutes, no flipping it and it turned out perfect.  I put no salt in.  I used a no salt seasoning.  O.... M..... G....  our lives have been changed forever!  We've been wanting to eat egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches, sloppy joes, hamburgers.  I'm a little beyond excited at the possibilities!

And dinner:

It was so good, I had to stop and literally pat myself on the back.

On Monday, I had a slight fall...  I fell down the bottom 6 stairs.  My stinkin' socks were so slick and I completely lost my footing.  I swear...  I was air born and landed flat on my back, neck and shoulder.  The nice thing about it, I know my kids and husband care about me!  They all came running.  Maybe I should fall more often!  Anyhow.. I'm still feeling it today.  I dug through the medicine box and finally found something a little stronger and wow...  I'm feeling better now.  Maybe I can clean the house a bit today.

It's football playoffs this weekend.  Both of our teams are playing today, but not against each other (thank goodness).  So here were are dressed to cheer our teams.  Curt's team won a fantastic game.  My team sucked it up and their season is over.  So I will pull out my 49ers clothes and cheer on my husband's team til they're done (hopefully, Feb. 5 at the Super Bowl).

How did I put on 4 lbs in one day?!?!?!  In fact...  I don't think I ate enough food yesterday to even equal 4 lbs!  Ridiculous!  Anyways...  we're seeing the cycle Curt always goes thru.  He loses a nice chunk of weight, then puts some back on but loses it again.  We're seeing me stuck at the same old weight.  Bah!!
